About

Dr. Shuzhen Luo, PhD, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Daytona Beach, FL since 2023 Fall. Her work lies in the intersection between human-robot interaction, machine learning, wearable robotics, control and biomechanics. Before joining ERAU, she worked as a postdoctoral research associate in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Rutgers University, New Jersey Institute of Technology, NC State University and UNC-Chapel Hill. She obtained Ph.D. degree at Nankai University.

Dr. Luo recently published a groundbreaking paper titled "Experiment-free exoskeleton assistance via learning in simulation" as the first author in the prestigious journal Nature. The paper is now available for public access. Congratulations to all the authors!

Dr. Luo received the CoE Research and Innovation Stimulus Grant and the project title is "Advancing Space Missions: AI Computing-Based, Human-Robot Collaboration in Reduced-Gravity Environments".

Dr. Luo received the FY25 Faculty (FIRST) Grant and the project title is "Structural Optimization of Personalized 3D-Printed Exoskeleton Using Machine Learning-Based Human-Robot Interaction Simulation".

 

January 18, 2024

 

Dr. Luo gave a presentation titled "Safety-Oriented Reinforcement Learning-Based Control of Robotic Exoskeletons for Aerospace and Aviation Industry" at the Boeing Center for Aviation and Aerospace Safety.

One paper has been accepted by the Journal of NeuroEngineering and Rehabilitation.

Dr. Luo gave a seminar talk on "AI computing and machine learning framework for human-robot interaction and intelligent robot control" at the University of Florida.

Dr. Luo was invited as a topic coordinator for Frontiers in Robotics and AI.

 

May, 2022

 

Our research work titled "Deep-Neural Network Reinforcement Learning-Based Robust Control of Lightweight and Compliant Lower-Limb Rehabilitation Exoskeletons for Walking" was presented at ICRA 2022 workshop.

 

Oct, 2021

 

Dr. Luo gave a presentation on "Stiffness-based Continuous Torque Control of Portable and High-Performance Wearable Robots" at IROS 2021 workshop and received the Best Poster Paper Award Second Place.
